February 14, 2009 03:17 am news · New Features

Well as many of you can probably tell we are near completion of the site and we have just added two new pages for team members. First: Mass Email This feature will let any member of the team send an email to every robostangs member by either choosing to use the roster database, or all the robostangs members with an account on the website. Initially it will not support attachments (since our site handles almost everything like that anyways) so that may be a feature to add later or we might decide it will not be necessary. Second: Team Emails I'm very proud to have set up this feature and I think it will be of great use if utilized. It reads all the emails sent to a special robostangs email account and then the page will display all the emails including their content, subject, and date sent, sender's name and sender's email. I figured this would come in handy when a member doesn't have an email or is not getting them, they can catch up from the site. The best part of this is all the possibilities it offers us for future modifications and enhancements of the site. For instance if someone does not wish to use our calendar page they can send an email to calendar@robostangs.com and our site will pick it up and add it to the proper date and fill in all the details it was sent. Or even uploding photos just by attaching them in an email and sending to photos@robostangs.com oh the possibilities are exciting.

February 1, 2009 03:35 pm news · Welcome

So far, the site is about one third completed. Already, there has been about 100 hours of user dedication into the creation of site the site, and the effort is well worth it. Unlike prior sites this site is no longer managed just by one or two people. The content of the site may come from any member of team. Any member of the team may create forum topics, calendar events, news, photos, or downloads. The core design team has done its best to make the whole site as intuitive and simple as possible but it's a seldom occurrence for it to initially start out that way in its entirety. Feel free to personally make suggestions on the forums or add comments to this post. To gain the access level of a team member just sign-up here at http://www.robostangs.com/register and sign up using your real name and it will cross check it against the current team roster. It will then give you the access levels a member needs to be able to publish the most amount of content. We still have yet to add the parent roster into the system and I hope if you are a parent you can hold off just a little longer before you register so we can make the process smoother for you and the core website team. We plan on working on that next weekend or earlier this week. Thanks for your patience. Please let the web designers know either through the site or in person if there are any issues that you encounter and we will try to fix them as soon as possible. Please do not forget that this site is still in the beta stage, and since it is all created from a custom in house code, bugs are possible. Once we get the more useful pages of the site done we will add personal contact information to the support page which will only be visible to the team members in case of a big error or security problem. We can be contacted immediately and we will most likely be in a situation where one of us can assess the problem. Additionally, we will post the login information to the site's FTP which has files that can be accessed through http://cad.robostangs.com which will only be visible on the support page to other team members, mentors, and parents. One interesting fact we would like to mention is that the design team actually programmed this site for next year, what we mean by this is that next year the site will not have to be re-coded. Of course it will be modified, and we would imagine some features and pages will be added however we will keep the same login system and all the content from the prior year to keep the site consistent. Also, instead of replacing the design the site supports multiple designs to choose from allowing each person to choose their favorite. Not to mention this offers anyone who is interested, a strong opportunity to create a design and learn how to effectively code and design an entire website while adding more choices to the rest of its users. In short the site's content will not change next year but there will be design choices, improvements, and additions. We would now like to point out that were placing the site's content in every member's hands and would encourage everyone to make this site become a very useful tool for the team by adding the necessary content. Thanks, and enjoy the new home of the robostangs.
